C&A:

Charlie Christian’s riffs on the opening chorus and outro of his Seven Come Eleven may well be the most often quoted by other guitarists during the coarse of their solos than any other of Charles’ phrases.  OKC guitarist, Benny Garcia, used to employ the riff frequently on his solos with Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys.  It’s a very simple and quite catchy line that can even be heard on occasion in the solos of instrumentalists other than guitarists.  Those riffs and the other riff heard on the intro and behind the vibes solo basically constitute the whole of the composition.

This final recording of Seven Come Eleven was recorded on the first night of the band’s stay at the Peacock Court ballroom in San Francisco during their four-month-long West Coast tour.  Unlike the Camel Caravan version six months earlier, this aircheck was well recorded.

The band finished their tour with a four week engagement at the Hotel St. Catherine on Santa Catalina Island before disbanding for the summer.  Charles was kept on salary for that duration.
