C&A:
The last song recorded on Charlie Christian’s Columbia Records session
backing singer Eddy Howard was Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams. This one and
two others were recorded with an octet under the direction of pianist Teddy
Wilson. The only song that CC soloed on, Star Dust, was pared down to a
quintet.
Charles’ main contribution on Wrap… was an lovely, elaborate 4-bar intro –
five takes but only one went beyond a false start and it’s the only take
ever released. Doesn’t matter, the guitar intros are virtually identical on
all takes. Trumpeter Bill Coleman is the only soloist on this song.
Die-hard guitarists should love this one – they get to use all their
fingers, and thumb.
