Six Appeal  —  4 June 1940

First Page:              Intro & Guitar Solo

Second Page:      Riffs / Cadenzas / Coda

C&A:

This is the first time the sextet recorded the minor mode Six Appeal.  There would be eight more versions documented but the intros are all the same and Charlie Christian gets only 16 bars for his solo (as do the other soloists).  His solo here establishes the general form of his solos on Six Appeal:  first eight bars are played on the lower frets, on the last eight bars he moves to the higher register.

Charles’ solo is fairly standard CC working in a minor key – and it is beautifully executed.  On the four-bar bridge (aka cadenza) one can hear him developing what would be the bridge for all subsequent solos on this tune.  The next four bars already contain what would be used to conclude, almost identically, his solos in all the versions that would follow.
